Challenges Faced by Garment Manufacturing Companies

Garment manufacturing companies in India, UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Middle East, Africa, and Algeria.

There are lots of factors that drive garment manufacturing companies in India, UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, Africa, and Algeria. If the comparative manufacturing costs are on one side of the coin, consumer tastes are on the other side. Also, whether or not a garment unit is profitable depends on factors like its ability to strike deals with retail and wholesale sectors and also its operational efficiency. Let us also not forget the fact that this industry is labor-intensive. Without skilled labor at its disposal, it is difficult for even a large garment manufacturing unit to survive, let alone make a mark of its own on the market.

Different equipment and skillsets are required to make clothing of different types. This is partly the reason why garment manufacturers these days prefer specializing in manufacturing one or two types of apparel only.

And when you specifically look at garment manufacturing companies in India, UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Middle East, Africa, and Algeria, it is interesting to note that there are different types of them plying their trade. For example, some integrated manufacturers design their clothing, manufacture them in their plants, and market them. The Licensees, on the other hand, have a different mode of operation. Typically, these companies have manufacturing units of their own but their manufactured clothing is marketed are marketed under license of other owners. Then there are Contract manufacturers at the other end of the spectrum. These manufacturers get in touch with independent designers and make clothing through their contracts. Designers like these do not have associations with manufacturers for marketing their brands. Irrespective of the type of apparel manufacturers you’re looking at; all of them market their brands or products only after having a hard look at the market and industry overview.

Most garment manufacturing companies in India, UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Middle East, Africa, and Algeria follow similar procedures when it comes to manufacturing apparel. As a first step, the design for the clothing is done. After this, a graphical representation using computers or sample patterns of fabric is prepared. Clothes are then cut based on markers and as per the measurement of the general population. As a final step, clothes are sewn by workers into finished items in the respective sewing plants. Before the delivery of clothing takes place, there are a few more procedures that need to be followed by the manufacturers. For example, the clothing is pressed, inspected, and are packed using different techniques before the delivery takes place. If you were to look at the entire manufacturing cycle in a nutshell, it appears interesting and challenging at the same time.

The evolution of the garment industry also makes for an interesting chapter. The transfer of production is what controls this industry on the whole. The garment production was globalized a long time back. Since then, the companies have been able to transfer their production activities from areas where there are high-wages to those that are associated with low-wages. The improvements in areas like networking and communication systems played their part in this development. Garment manufacturing companies in India, UAE, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Middle East, Africa, and Algeria that are export-oriented have brought about lots of good returns for their respective countries.

However, that said, there are lots of challenges apparel manufacturing units of these countries have to look at and take on them. For those manufacturing units that tick all the boxes, the road ahead is bright and promising. However, for others, the journey ahead is still challenging. Garment manufacturing companies, both big and small, need to stay abreast of the latest developments in their industry to stay competitive and make an impact going forward.
